It took me a month of patiently waiting for what I thought was the "Soldier" release date, only to find out the track ID I had from Shazam was wrong and I could've had it sooner... CURSES! I've been playing this puppy on repeat for quite a while. The cinematic sounds remind me of something that you could've heard in "Drive" or "The Knick" (interestingly enough both of which were scored by possibly my favourite modern film score composer, Cliff Martinez). That slow-burning, haunting 90s synth and the dark hypnotic vocals. It sounds like it could also have come off a Matthew Dear album, so thats some pretty high praise from me, hope y'all enjoy it too. I highly recommend jacking your bass up for this...)
Yosoy - Soldier (Slow Porn Version)
This second post is a classic thats been covered and then touched up by Betoko. Props to my Uber driver last week for playing this on my ride downtown.

Derpin Grammar
Doing anything on this godforsaken computer takes for fucking ever. I seriously hope to have a shiny new beast to do blogposts on in a speedy fashion sooner rather than later.
Bambook - The Storm
London Grammar - Sights (Dennis Ferrer Remix)
Johnny Mikes feat. Michael B. - Darkness Everyday
Jazz and Soul updates are among my favourite things, especially if they involve Bill Withers. Every song hasn't been written (not by a long shot!) but I'm a sucker for a classic.

Anything I Want
This Alice Rose track (with remix by previous blog entry Ruede Hagelstein) is killer. For starters it sounds like its been pulled straight out of a Danny Tenaglia set, and well you really can't go wrong having that going for you already.
Next up is a new release by without a doubt, two of the biggest names in Dance music production for the past 20 years, Green Velvet & Carl Craig. It sounds like you'd expect a track produced by those two to sound. Twisted, Dark, Deep heavy bass with fucked up lyrics. A lot of what i love about Dance music right there.
Lastly, I've truly lost count of how many different covers I've heard of this song. Theres a reason for that. Arthur Russell was a huge inspiration to a lot of the people making (interesting) electronic music today, something like a Nicholas Jaar of his time only without all the fame and good looks. If you don't know his name you likely know his music produced under various aliases including Dinosaur and Loose Joints. Anyhoo, I came across this remixed cover of This Is How We Walk On The Moon and since the original version is one of both mine and my husband's favourite songs, I thought they both ought to be included here.
It seems like summer was just starting and I really don't know where the time went. But onward we go.
keep those happy feet moving!

I don't like Acid
Finally getting around to some much needed shazam sorting and found a few lovely things to share with you all. First up, the ever amazing Late Nite Tuff Guy. Giving an old 10cc track a treatment that only he could deliver.. super super funky. All four tracks are pretty different, Kollektiv Turmstrasse are one of my favourite minimal producers, some light funky tunes remixed by Dave Allison of Montreal and rounding things out a little language lesson courtesy Diamond Dealer. Happy Dancing!
Happy dancing y'all!
If you're in Toronto.. check out BreakfastClub Hell, check it out even if you aren't. A Yoga, Pre-work, Danceparty happening monthly here in Toronto. The next one is August 26th and I challenge you to find a more energizing way to start your day :)

Fosse! Fosse! Martha Graham! Martha Graham! The Black Madonna! The Black Madonna!
Something very fun with a little touch of jazzy piano came into my life yesterday and I can't get it out of my head, so I thought I would share it with y'all. If you don't know how much I love dance music with a little instrumentation in it... consider this your warning. On my first listen it was obvious that it was sampling an old favourite of mine. Heavily. And I'm totally okay with that! In fact I wish she had put in a bit of the vocals but thats ok, I'll leave the original here for you to use your imagination and do a little remix with your mind project. On a side note, God bless Larry Levan.
The Black Madonna runs Smart Bar in Chicago and seems like a pretty awesome lady. First of all she's white, so don't get it twisted. Her mother loved the painting and she wanted to pay tribute to that. Isn't that sweet? She's playing here in Toronto soon (May 8th) at The Black Eagle and I plan to be there, and after these little ditties so will you.
The Black Madonna - Exodus
The Black Madonna - Stay
and heres where it is sampled from. LOVE this tune. Ok its not the ORIGINAL... but it's all that matters.

shame 'bout ol' Billy Joe
This Monkey Maffia track has been in my head a lot lately and I realized that I had meant to put it on here ages ago and hadn't yet. So here she is. I love the solid steady tempo and the whispery, rather gloomy, matter-of-fact conversation.
And this second one I just happened across while browsing through some new tunes a few days ago. It's going to be released soon on a WMC compilation. You can't really go wrong with Nina Simone. Ever.
Enjoy!

Something old, something new.
It being Thursday and all, I thought I would post something a little bit retro that I heard a couple weeks ago that I had totally forgotten about.
Tom Jones did an album of contemporary stuff in like probably 1999 or '00 and it was actually quite successful. The whole thing was made up of collaborations with pop stars of the day and this one with German House music producer Mousse T was the biggest single. This remix of it still stands up 15 years later.
Tom Jones & Mousse T - Sex Bomb (Sounds of Life Half Vocal Mix)
And lastly, this one popped up during the Tom Ravenscroft show on BBC 6 music a couple weeks ago and I fell in love with it. This girl from merseyside, UK has such a pretty voice and the structure of the song is so disjointedly gorgeous. Not the typical style of music I've been posting but there you go. something new.
